HOLY LAND: THE PARENTS CIRCLE WINS THE INTERNATIONAL “LUPO DI GUBBIO” AWARD FOR RECONCILIATION

On August 29th, the Israeli-Palestinian association The Parents Circle will be bestowed with the 2009 “Lupo di Gubbio” international award for reconciliation. The award, that in the past has been won by Edhi Abdul Sattar (a Pakistani social worker) and Djivan Gasparyan (an Armenian musician who with his Duduk has brought messages of hope and peace all over the world), is bestowed to a person or association that has stood out for committing their lives to overcoming distances. The Parents Circle is a group of Israeli and Palestinian parents who have lost their children in the war between the two peoples and who now support peace and reconciliation. They decided to turn their mourning into the promotion of peace, hoping in an agreement between the two governments and that the wounds of the two peoples may be healed. Before taking the award, the association will give its testimony during a two-day walk that will start tomorrow along the Franciscan Path of Peace from Assisi to Gubbio. Here, the association will receive the award during “Life in piazza grande”, a night gala which will also be attended by the Nobel Prize for Literature Dario Fo, the Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani, actor Gigi Proietti and writer Erri De Luca.
