Carissimi, Le prime quattro domeniche del Triodion ci hanno portato per mano, guidati dal Vangelo, all’incontro con il Signore. Adesso, all’inizio del nostro cammino quaresimale, che quest’anno è drammaticamente segnato dal terribile terremoto che ha colpito la Turchia e la Siria, due paesi fratelli nella fede e nelle nostre origini cristiane, ed anche dal drammatico prolungarsi della guerra in Ucraina, paese pure fratello nella fede e diventato da più di due decenni paese di origine di una parte importante del nostro Esarcato, voglio proporvi una rilettura, o forse un re incontro, con un testo che segnerà tutto il nostro cammino quaresimale nella tradizione bizantina. Si tratta della “Preghiera di Sant’Efrem”, che ripetiamo nelle diverse ore dell’ufficiatura. Diverse volte mi è stato chiesto di parlare su questo testo, breve, quasi sintetico, profondamente evangelico. È un testo che è attribuito a sant’Efrem il Siro (+373), questo grande padre della Chiesa siriaca, un padre che è stato anche accolto e stimato nelle altre tradizioni cristiane.

Some months ago, the Very Reverend Archpriests from Lithuania, Vladimiras Seliavko and Vitalijus Mockus, and the Reverend Presbyters Vitalis Dauparas, Gintaras Sungaila and Georgy Ananiev, who were imposed the penalty of deposition from the priesthood by the Patriarchate of Moscow, addressed His All-Holiness Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople – New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch by letter to exercise the petition of appeal before Him, as they are entitled.

Oggi scoccano gli undici mesi dall’inizio dell’invasione russa in Ucraina, la guerra che Vladimir Putin ha voluto avviare il 24 febbraio 2022 come recrudescenza di ideologia zarista e sovietica.
